I need a new game...

Postby ka-panda! » Sat Feb 06, 2010 12:14 pm

I am sad to say that I haven't actually played or enjoyed a video game for about a year now..... I can feel myself getting bored with video games!!!! NOOO!!!! That can't be happening! =[ I need some new games! Something to make me want to play games again. Any suggestions?

(I only have a PS2, PSP, and a DS)

Hard to make suggestions without knowing your interests. Mentioning a few games you own (and have actually enjoyed) would help. If I asked for game suggestions and someone recommended Burnout Paradise to me it wouldn't do much good because I hate racing games.

Losing interest in games isn't necessarily a bad thing either if you happen to be finding interests in other areas. My interest in games has decreased a bit over the years through boredom with the same old formats but moreso because my interests have evolved from things that are merely enjoyable to things that are meaningful (but still enjoyable :]P ). My gaming hobby has been preserved because I believe balancing life with moments of mindless leisure can have a healthy influence across all areas of your life , but I do play less now than I used to.

You might want to pop one of your favorite games in and just play it for a bit to see if it still holds your interest. If it does, there may be similar titles you'd enjoy. If it doesn't, maybe you're just moving on to other things.

Haha! Yeah... I guess I was a little vague. Sorry!

Um. I liked Final Fantasy VII and X... I liked the Kingdom Hearts series. So I guess I like RPGs...? Haha! :D

Well taking into consideration your comment about not playing a game in a year, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days was released on DS within the last several months. I haven't played it myself so I can't comment on it, but reviews seem favorable. You probably know what to expect from the KH series by now.

If you liked Final Fantasy VII, there's a chance you'll like Crisis Core: FFVII on PSP. It's not a low-budget title with shoddy controls like the other FFVII spin-offs. In fact, it's the only spin-off I think is any good. It has plenty of playtime too if you clear the game 100%. It was released well over a year ago though, so maybe you've already played it.

The "Tales of" series is a series of RPGs with quite a consistent following and has titles on multiple platforms. Tales of the Abyss for PS2 is one of the fan favorites and has great voice work and character interaction. The battles have more in common with Kingdom Hearts than with traditional RPG battles.

That covers all 3 systems you have, maybe some YouTube gameplay videos would help you decide if any of them peak your interest.

Well if you are an RPG fan, you're in luck - the PS2 and DS are like the holy grail for RPG fans, and the PSP isn't too shabby either.

If you like strategy-type RPGs, I'd suggest giving the Disgaea series a try. It mixes extremely solid gameplay with a hilariously cheesy, over the top storyline. Coincidentally, the first game in the series is available on all three of the systems you mentioned.

If you want something fast-paced, you should play The World Ends With You on DS. It has a very cool, edgy FF7/KH style of graphics. (Actually I think Nomura did the art, didn't he?) The battles are very hectic, with button-combos controlling the character on the top screen and stylus movements controlling the bottom. It takes a few seconds to get used to the combat, but the game as a whole is very refreshing.

If you're looking for something a bit more traditional, try out the Persona series. Persona 1 is on the PSP and Persona 3 and 4 are on PS2. They combine a social simulator where you build up relationships with people around town with dungeon-crawling, monster-killing fun.

I can relate with your loss of interest in video games. I go through those phases every once in a while. For me, my mood often changes based on who I'm hanging around with. When I'm at home during the summer, I tend to focus more on drawing and anime, but when I'm at college with my gamer buddies, I play video games a lot more.

@TP Take a 2 week daycation from video games. Seriously. Sometimes you need a pallet cleanse, and time off is the best way to do that. Also, doesn't hurt to boot up some classic games ie. Pac Man, Mario, DK ect

Well, this certainly appears to be a rather interesting topic for me.
Ka-panda, may i suggest that you should play Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier for the PSP. That game is rather awesome in my opinion.

I thought the demo was ok. I liked it, but I have games higher on my want list before I get that.

I played one of those... But I think only Daxter was in it. It was a free game with my PSP. (Not very fun)...But maybe I'll check that out! Thanks!

I didn't even bother with Daxter. I had bought my PSP and I got the Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squad free. Its pretty good if its all you got to play. But its not the best game. I was annoyed when they released Elite Squad which was pretty much Renegade Squad. No graphical improvements, only a few new weapons and customization pieces, and they knocked the online from 8v8 to 3v3. It should have been a DLC really.
