My brother's fat PS3 does the same thing and although I've fixed it a few times it seems to be a recurring issue with those models. It never used to be. The fats worked fine until the slims were released, so I think something changed in the software. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It may have to do with the DNS caching because I've fixed it a few times by playing with the modem frequency channels. I don't have a foolproof fix though I'm afraid, and I can't test it on my slim.
