I loved the tropical inspirations and tag-team battles for FFX, but it was hard for me to get excited past that point because I didn't care much for the character cast. Auron was the only one I really liked, but like most of Final Fantasy's badarse characters he didn't have as much screen time, or much personality for that matter.

Square's been putting out mostly teenage characters for a while now, last game with an older more mature cast was FFVII. XIII has a few mature(ish) characters, but they're accompanied by raging adolescents. I guess XII had a few too, but they didn't have a story to take part in. >_>

David wrote:Interesting. I'm willing to bet FFX was their first game then, because when it was released the current "fan community" of the time heavily criticized it for no world map, no controllable airship, bright ugly clothing, rock music, horrible voice work, and a main character that looks like a cross between every previous FF protagonist wearing Sion's (from The Bouncer) clothing. I even heard whining about linearity back then simply due to the lack of a world map. Nine years later and now FFX is fairly loved. The same cycle repeats with pretty much every game though.

I guess renting FFXIII is a good idea, though if you do get it you'll have to replay the drawn-out beginning all over again. :]P

No, no. They've played all the older games. I guess I should have said that they consider FFX and everything after it blasphemy.

Why would I have to play the beginning again? I already saved long passed it.

Also, constantly shifting paradigms is REALLY ANNOYING... as are Lightning's childish outbursts. Other than that... I'm having some fun. lol

I never really saw FFX's cast as young. Only Tidus and Rikku really. Everyone else seemed pretty mature. I need to get that game again, it was awesome.

My apologies, my brain apparently thinks games still come on cartridges.

Even Yuna? :P I guess script-wise she wasn't as bad as Tidus, but her English voice actor lowered her age a good ten years. I wanted to kill her the entire game.

Half of FFVII's cast was over the age of 30, and the only teenager was an optional character. I think Nomura would like to design more characters like that, but I remember reading once about Square's execs requesting main protagonists that appeal to a younger audience. Never mind that the largest gaming demographic is 18-34 yrs...

I always get a chuckle how in most animes or games, people are able to master martial arts and combat etc. and they are like 15 years old. Your body isn't even fully developed yet, and yet they have mastered it.

I found Yuna to be quite mature in FFX. It was in FFX-2 that she seemed to have lost all the maturity and sense she once had.

And there were two teenagers in FFVII. Red XIII is 16 or 17 according to Bugenhagen. Red was just more mature than... pretty much the entire party. Hahaha.

Also, Lightning's eidolon killed my entire party with one hit. Sadface :( lol

I'm not counting equivalents though, his literal age is well outside the teens.

Bugenhagen: "Ho Ho Hoooo. I hear that you looked after Nanaki a bit. Nanaki is
still a child you see."

Red XIII: "Please stop, grandfather. I'm 48."

Bugenhagen: "Ho Ho Hoooo. Nanaki's tribe has incredible longevity. So you see
his 48 years would only be equivalent to say that of a 15 or 16 year old in
human reckoning."

I just realised FFXIII is just like another FFXII where i didnt even need summons as much as i relied back on the older titles.

Yea I haven't been using them much either because my characters deal way more damage than the summons. They do have one added use in XIII though: they revive any unconscious party members. I think they cure negative status too.

I'd like a long spring. I don't care too much for summer.

I could handle a permanent summer no problem. Florida-born and heat-wired, I love the stuff. :|]

Reviving party members with a summon, yes. Removing status effects, no, but I'm pretty sure it works too.

I am definitely a spring and autumn guy. For the extreme "main" seasons, I definitely prefer winter. If it's too hot out I can't even sleep. Oh yeah, and I grew up without having an air conditioner in the household, so I quickly learned to hate summer.

These days Singapore finally lifted its month long dry spell and is pouring nearly everyday. But i like cold, and wish to at least see winter some day still.

I've been in this state for one summer and I hate it so much I'm thinking of ways to avoid it before Spring. I miss California summer.

We're supposed to get snow soon...I hate Illinois weather.
On a lighter note, nothing new has happened to me recently.

Yeah, when you have to go through several heat waves with no relief except for the oscillating fan rotating to cool you (if that much) you learn to hate summer pretty bad.

One of these days, something ridiculously cool is going to happen to you. Murphy's Law, man.

Yea, I grew up in Florida and the Bahamas and all four of the houses I lived in during that time didn't have AC. I also slept on a bunk bed my entire childhood, on the top, where the heat is trapped at the ceiling. :]P I just learned to love it though. Even now I've never used AC a day in my life. Just a waste of precious travel money IMO. I can't fully appreciate swimming pools, cool drinks, ceiling fans, bikini girls, open car windows, motor bikes, and open sliding doors without intense heat anyway.

Haven't played a game with a clock for some time, so with FFXIII I was finally able to record the length of my controller battery. 27 hours - I was shocked. Rechargeable controllers are one of the best things to come out of this console generation.
